Buyoyon (ブヨヨン Buyoyon) is a major supporting character (one of initial deutagonists) from the Time Patrol Bon franchise. He himself claims to be a super lifeform from the super spacetime.
Appearance[]
On the contrary to the manga and the 2024 anime, Buyoyon in the 1989 anime is depicted to be greenish in coloration.
Due to his appearance, Bon once called Buyoyon a "jellyfish monster/ghost/yokai" (クラゲおばけ Kurage Obake). He was also once misidentified as a horse dung.
Personality[]
He is proud of himself as a supernatural being and often acts bossy.
Due to his history of positive and cooperative associations with various Time Patrol officers, Buyoyon in the 1989 anime is regarded as an unofficial member (supporter) of the organization, and the Time Patrol headquarter has exceptionally approved his accompaniment to agents on their missions.
He doesn't specifically favor animals in general because they are often startled by Buyoyon's appearance and presence, and may trouble him in the end. Additionally, he dislikes carnivorous creatures as they often try to prey on him.
In the 1989 anime, he has a habit of adding "dearu", meaning "be" and "is", at the end of words to put on airs.
Skills and Abilities[]
Most of Buyoyon's background and biology are unclear, however he is an extraordinal being to possess several unnatural abilities and characteristics. He is capable of understanding and speaking multiple human speeches, potential physical immortality, living in time hole, performing time travelling, freely levitating, becoming invisible, and so on. His intelligence is on par with humans.
Due to his anatomy, Buyoyon is the only major character in the franchise to avoid physical deaths through their missions. He also doesn't have teeth, but has no problems to chew foods. With his anatomy and agility, he is also good at disrupting targets such as by sticking on their faces and blocking their visibilities.
His urine works as a powerful fire extinguisher.
He also memorizes regulations of Time Patrol missions, however it is not verified how he managed to do this as he differs anatomy from humans (it is unclear whether or not he can use the "compressed studying" device).
It is unclear whether or not there exist Buyoyon's species, or other "super spacetime organisms".
Relationships[]
Ream Stream[]
At one point in the past, Ream encountered Buyoyon. Since then, Buyoyon started to interact with her and other Time Patrol officers. Buyoyon self-claims that he is a mission partner of Ream.
Bon Namihira[]
Buyoyon can be sarcastic towards Bon at times.
In the manga, Ream and Buyoyon dissolved a partnership with Bon at the end of the part 1 due to Bon's promotion from a trainee, and they didn't appear for the rest of the manga. This was presumably caused by both the suspension of Monthly Shōnen World and Fujiko F. Fujio's declining health.
On the other hand, Buyoyon's involvements as a partner with Bon and Yumiko Yasukawa were kept in both 1989 and 2024 anime adaptations even after Ream's relocation and Bon's promotion.
Yumiko Yasukawa[]
Buyoyon and Yumiko had never directly met in the manga unlike 1989 and 2024 anime adaptations in which they became one of partners along with Bon.

Trivia[]
- His name means "flabby" in Japanese.
- Buyoyon is one of few exceptional characters in the franchise to possess mysterious, unnatural (unrealistic) aspects to represent Fujiko's "SF" ("little mystic" Sukoshi Fushigina) series.
- Buyoyon is one of few exceptions to be a non-mammalian-esque mascot character among Fujiko's works. He is also one of few gelatinous, jellyfish-like characters among Fujiko works along with Popon.
- On the contrary to Tetsuo Shiraishi, Buyoyon was voiced by a female cast in the 1989 anime and a male cast in the 2024 anime.
- Buyoyon is the only major character of the franchise who didn't make a cameo appearance in Doraemon: Nobita and the Birth of Japan 2016.
- Part 1 of the manga was suddenly cancelled due to the suspension of Monthly Shōnen World, resulting in (presumably intended to be temporal) retreats of Ream and Buyoyon from the plot.
- The 1989 anime was released after Fujiko F. Fujio ceased publishing the manga for his health, and Fujiko at least partially supervised the 1989 anime, therefore the affection between Ream and Bon and their reunition, and Buyoyon's continuous involvements in the 1989 anime could have been what Fujiko originally intended to expand in his manga.
- Buyoyon along with Luffin from the Doraemon franchise are examples that non-humans can participate in Time Patrol.
