Defeat the Bully (ガキ大将をやっつけろ Gakitaishō wo Yattsukero) is the eight episode from the Doraemon 1973 anime.

Plot[]

"What's yours is mine and what's mine is mine."

Gian, the bully, has confiscated comics and toys from the neighborhood kids. Everyone has one wish: to get them back.

When they ask Doraemon for it, he takes out an Instant Object Mobile. A machine that can fetch an object from any distance in an instant.Nobita uses it to retrieve comics and toys from Gian's room one after another.

However, by operating the machine, Doraemon mistakenly brings Gian's father's to Nobita's room. In fact, Gian's family is composed by a father and his only child. To Gian, his father is irreplaceable. He cried and said that he would rather give back all his comics and toys than have his father taken away.

When Doraemon saw this, he moved Gian to his father's side. Gian finds the toys and cartoons that were suddenly taken from him, and changes his mind.

"I knew this was all mine!" - he said. The comics and toys the kids got back were Gian's again. He was the bully who never learned his lesson.

Trivia[]

  • This episode was found in Masami Jun's storage, albeit with no audio.
  • As far as the story is concerned, the only things it shares with the original chapter of the manga are the introduction and the design of the machine. The anime version added Gian's family backstory and the depiction of him as a "bratty bully", perhaps to emphasize the punchline.
  • This episode was originally the seventh. Later it became the eight. There are still confusions in some sources that name it as the seventh.
  • The story serves as an introduction to Gian's character, who had a different background than the original story and subsequent anime series: his family consisted of him and his father, who was small and physically weak. It is also revealed that his mother has passed away. Because of this, the owner of the family store was his father and it was called "Honesty Shop" (正直屋 Shōjikiya). It is implicitly shown that his sister Jaiko was not born in this version.
