Will Nobita and Doraemon solve this problem involving, Future, Present, and Past and put everything in order? Otherwise the future will set in stone?

Plot[]

The movie continues off from the future 15 years later from the present. Future Nobita, Gian, Suneo and Dekisugi finish their bachelors' party at Gian's house. Suneo and Gian are both drunk, except for Dekisugi and Nobita, as Nobita is ready to go back home. As Nobita is driving back home, the trio can't wait to see Nobita finally getting married to Shizuka the next day. However, Nobita doesn't seem too happy and stares outside of the car window, and remembers his longtime childhood friend, Doraemon. The story continues from the first movie, with Nobita saying Doraemon that he wants to go back to the present time and misses Present Shizuka.

At the present time, August 7, which is Nobita's birthday, Tamako shouts at him for a failed test paper she had found. Nobita is upset about this event and and trying to hide his remaining test papers, he finds a teddy bear and Nobita explains that his grandmother fixed it when he was young, and reveals that his grandmother passed away when he was in kindergarten. He goes to his closet and find his grandmother's album, reminiscing the good times with his grandmother in the past. He breaks into tears and demands to see his grandmother once again. So he and Doraemon travel back seven years to the past to see his deceased grandmother.

They succeed finding Nobita's grandmother while young Nobita was being consoled by Shizuka after being bullied by Gian and Suneo. Grandma says her wish to see Nobita joining school which Nobita fulfils by bringing his school bag and showing it to Grandma by wearing it. Grandma then expressed her last wish as if to see Nobita's bride. Nobita promises to her that he will show his bride to Grandma. He asks Doraemon for which Doraemon said that it was not sure whether Nobita will marry Shizuka or not. They check the Time TV and see that Nobita is late to his marriage and was not visible for a long time.

Suneo concluded that Nobita had lost confidence so he ran away, which Shizuka denies (though Suneo's guess was correct). Doraemon and Nobita go to the future after bidding goodbye to Grandma. There Nobita became an adult using Time Cloth and Nobita replaces Adult Nobita at the marriage. Seeing Present Nobita petrified at the wedding altar with Shizuka, Doraemon guides him on how to do it. Nobita's teeth start to grind. He was almost unconscious when the priest asked whether he sweared to marry Shizuka. He didn't answer and Nobita was blown in the ear by Doraemon and came back to senses. However, when the priest says, "You may now kiss the bride", present Nobita blushes and falls. People gather at the top floor of the hotel as present Nobita is enjoying the food, as Shizuka giggles at him, even though Doraemon told him to control himself so people won't notice something suspicious, including his bride. The female announcer then tells everyone to watch Nobita and Shizuka cut the wedding cake, overheard, Gian and Suneo decide to watch and join in too. When the wedding cake finally emerges, they start cutting while their friends take pictures of them. During the wedding, future Dekisugi, who is on the moon, sends a Congratulation Message in a hologram, while their former Elementary Sensei makes a speech for Nobita about his failing test, and takes a group photo. Nobita tries to make a speech but is not able to, due to being from 14 years ago and Doraemon tells him that Shizuka is getting suspicious. With that in mind, Nobita decides to leave the ceremony because of suspiciousness from Shizuka, leaving Gian to take his place to sing in front of everybody in the wedding while waiting Nobita to come back. After leaving the wedding ceremony, they rushed down from the escalator to leave the hotel, however, a suspicious man saw them and the scene changed the two of them outside

Back in the present, they find Future Nobita hanging in the sandlot and Present Nobita and Doraemon carried him into the Nobi Residence. They questioned him why he failed to show up at the wedding ceremony and Future Nobita explained that he felt that Shizuka may have accepted his proposal only because she felt sorry for him and he needed time to think. With that in mind, Doraemon uses the Time TV to show what would happen in a year later if Future Nobita did not return to his timeline and it shows Shizuka sadly waiting for Nobita's return, much to Future Nobita's despair. With Future and Present Nobita's bodies having switched places using a Substitution Rope, he goes outside to play baseball with Gian and Suneo, while Present Nobita in his future body and Doraemon watch his grown up version playing by hiding in a utility pole. Gian and Suneo lose the game due to future Nobita by acting as back when he was a kid, on purpose, and Doraemon realizes that grown up Nobita will never improve his baseball skills. Heading back home through the window, they see a robot Nakameguro on the floor waiting for them, to return the product that Doraemon bought earlier and he tells him that he has to wait because present and future Nobita switched bodies about an hour ago. This causes Nakameguro to panic saying if they don't switch back to their original bodies in "one hour", they would lose their memories. Doraemon and Nobita uses their Take-copter to find future Nobita in mid-air, using a Missing Person Stick, then go all the way up into the air.

Future Nobita escaped from Gian and Suneo, then bumps into a group of middle school thugs who demands him money. However, due to a 2000 yen bill being from the future, they think it was fake. Future Nobita attempts to make his getaway by stealing a nearby scooter and the thugs start chasing him. Unfortunately, he sees a 10-year-old Shizuka passing by and crashes into the fields and the thugs find him there to beat him up. Shizuka, who was following them, tells the thugs to leave Nobita alone. When they turn to Shizuka, Future Nobita tells her to run and fights them in an attempt to be her hero. Meanwhile, Gian and Suneo come to the rescue and the thugs walk away. As Shizuka treats his wounds, Future Nobita passes out horrifying his friends. Meanwhile, Present Nobita is having a hard time keeping up and he passes out as well, horrifying Doraemon. He uses the Anywhere Door to bring him to Nobita's future self to switch back before their memories fade. Unfortunately, the Substitution Rope notifies Doraemon that they cannot be switched back. Doraemon threatened to destroy the Substitution Rope, only for Doraemon to witness another failed attempt (as both Nobitas are too weak to switch back). Both Doraemon and Shizuka were crying for him. A few moments later, they were successfully switched back without their memories wiped out. As they both wake up, Shizuka hugs Present Nobita, reprimanding him there was no reason to push himself too hard and he should be just the way he is and bursted into tears for putting himself at edge of death while Gian and Suneo breathed a sigh of relief for Nobita is alright. Future Nobita, who was watching, has finally mustered up the courage to return to his timeline to marry Shizuka, realizing that him being by her side is what makes her happy.

At the time machine, the two Nobita wants to find out how they both got their name "Nobita Nobi", so Doraemon traveled back from the past where the day when Nobita came to earth. When they all arrived, the room is extremely clean, including the walls and the floor revealing it's a red carpet. They went downstairs and see their father from the past, who is all looking worried. All run to the hospital where Nobita was born. There Nobita's mom and dad are happy to welcome their son. Present and Future Nobita see Baby Nobita and says that he looks like a monkey for which they get scolding from Nobita's father. Then the baby is named Nobita. The meaning of the name was they want Nobita to be a good, talented, caring boy. Present and Future Nobita say that he is not that at all for which they are sent out of the hospital.

Back at the hotel, they rushed to the escalator and found their past selves running down on the other side, it's also revealed that the figure who saw them ran away before was actually Future Nobita, who has got his confident back after returned from the past. After that, both Present and Future Nobita gone in their separate ways as the Present Nobita and Doraemon waved his future self. With real Future Nobita returns to the wedding (it is also revealed that Gian has kept on singing his "song") and finally Gian stops at the right time. People at the wedding thinking that Nobita saved everyone from Gian's horrific tone and claps, while Shizuka looking alright and isn't worried too. Plus, the rain has stopped and the man opens the roof revealing the rain lasted till afternoon.

Future Nobita then starts making a long and emotional wedding speech about why his parents named him Nobita Nobi and how his parents raised him as a child, including his grandmother who was always by his side. He told his parents and Mr. and Mrs. Minamoto that he will follow their footsteps and promises Shizuka that he will make a happy family like their parents did, and Shizuka agrees with a small nod and a happy smile. With them holding hands, they're now officially husband and wife. The whole crowd applauds with happiness, also showing a tear from Nobita and Shizuka's parents and his friends. At the other side, Doraemon, Nobita and his grandmother watched the wedding ceremony as his grandmother sheds an emotional tear, watching her grandson getting married to Shizuka. Future Nobita who saw this was completely shocked after seeing Grandma. While Shizuka asks the reason for it, he says nothing. Shizuka saw where he was seeing and sees Grandma. Nobita's grandmother thanks Present Nobita because she has finally fulfilled her wish and the three leaves the future using Anywhere Door, while Future Tamako and Nobisuke almost saw them too. Shizuka figures out that Nobita from earlier was from the past disguised as an adult with Doraemon's help before, and they put on their wedding rings gracefully. A drawn version of their wedding painting is shown, signed by "Christiane Gouda" (Jaiko - Gian's little sister).

Back in the past, Nobita and his grandma talk about his future with Shizuka, with his grandma pointing out that Nobita has some strength and Shizuka chose him because she sees it in him, then Nobita hugs her while Doraemon is listening in the corner of the wall.

Meanwhile, as Nobita and Doraemon were sitting on the Time Machine (while traveling back in autopilot), the Forgotten Stick that left untouched besides him and accidentally hits his head making him forget all of the events that happened in the whole movie. Doraemon decides to keep it as the future has been set, while Nobita keeps asking him as the film ends.

  • This is also the second Doraemon film that does not have Nobita's name in the title.
  • This film is the sequel to Stand by Me, Doraemon which was released in 2014.

  • Stand By Me 2 has footage of Nobita's wedding which hasn't been seen before in the Manga, Anime, or any other movies.
  • Nobita's reason to abandon his own wedding because he felt that he won't be able to provide Shizuka a bright future is similar to his reason to cut all ties with Shizuka by all means necessary in "Goodbye, Shizuka" (also counting the first film's segment) as they are both because that he thinks he wasn't good enough for Shizuka and wanted her to have a happy life and Shizuka's heartwarming words causes Nobita to bounce back. However, the only difference is that while Nobita was temporarily too devastated to do so in the previous film, Nobita was uncertain that if he should marry Shizuka in this film.
    • Additionally, in the first film, Shizuka initially felt the same way but quickly regained her confidence after her father's speech.
  • When little Shizuka gets mad at little Nobita for being rude to his own grandmother, he is holding a toy banana which is similar to the episode "A Girl With Red Shoes".
  • This movie combines with these Doraemon episodes:
    1. Memories of Grandma
    2. The Day When I Was Born
  • According to Wednesday announcement update, television announcer, Shin’ichi Hatori, will voice the Substitution Rope, even though the Substitution Rope doesn't speak in the anime series. But this version of Substitution Rope in the CGI movie will be completely different prior to the anime version.
  • This is the second time Present Nobita takes his future self's place in the future. The first time was in the first film, when he was attempting to rescue Shizuka from a snowstorm while in this film was to do the wedding ceremony before deciding to search for his future self.
    • However, while Future Shizuka did not discover that it was actually Nobita's past self disguised as an adult during the snowstorm, she figured out that it was him on the first half of the wedding when Future Nobita returned, most likely because she saw his grandmother, 10-year-old Nobita, and Doraemon on the other side.
  • According to the seating arrangement of Nobita and Shizuka's wedding (that was posted on Twitter few days ago), Dekisugi's name is nowhere on the list. However, he does make an appearance on a screen congratulating the couple.
  • On the first part of the movie: Memories of Grandma, we can see Nobiru Nobi (Nobita's paternal grandfather, the father-in-law of Tamako Nobi, the husband of Nobita's grandmother, and also the father of Nobirou Nobi and Nobisuke Nobi) as a "picture frame only", right beside the Daruma (Nobita's red toy figure that was from an episode: That Day, That Time, and That Daruma.
  • From mid-October 2020, Seibu Railway 's 40000 series 1 train has been wrapped with this work. In addition, in "DORAEMON-GO!", Which is applied to the company's 30000 series 1 train, the in-car advertisement is unified to this work.
  • Switching Present Nobita and Future Nobita's (25 Years Old) body has a pretty similar move from the episode: 45 Years Later... My Future Self Came to Visit.

    • This is the name the English dub uses.
