Dress-Up Camera (gadget)

Dress Up Camera (きせかえカメラ Kise kae Kamera, lit. "Dress Camera") is a gadget owned by Doraemon and Dorami.

History[]

Past models of this item can be seen in Doraemon: Nobita's Secret Gadget Museum, which resemble 19th century cameras.

Function[]

The Dress Up Camera is able to override the person's attire with whatever image inserted inside it, seemingly destroying the ammunition in the process.

This item appears to be only usable on humanoid entities and not other types of machines & structures such as cars & houses, and spawned clothing may or may not match the size of eligible targets. It also cannot affect the casing of mechanical automatons but instead adds clothing to them (I.E. Doraemon). Additionally, it is able to affect multiple individuals at once, but may result in mismatches when mixed ammunition has been inserted. If fired while damaged or with blanks/no ammunition, the camera may also malfunction and remove all clothing on the target, effectively rendering them naked.

Nudity resulted from this item is never seen on-screen for rating reasons, but has been implied multiple times:

There has been one occasion where Shizuka Minamoto attempted to give Nobita Nobi a coat after finding Doraemon's damaged camera, but after the flash she blushes suddenly, turns her back and unintentionally drops the camera while screaming, during which Nobita managed to hide in bushes to cover himself with large leaves.
In another occasion, Doraemon attempted to use it on Shizuka, Suneo, Nobita and Takeshi while loading multiple types of ammo on the item. The camera then produced mismatched results, much to the embarrassment of Takeshi since he somehow has Shizuka's clothes, while Shizuka herself has Takeshi's oversized pants. Since Takeshi doesn't have underwear, Shizuka is effectively naked and she screams as Doraemon, Suneo, Takeshi and Nobita frantically turn away.

In several censored versions, due to rating regulations concerning nudity this item leaves the target with underwear on when fired with blanks, and automatically grants them some if they don't have any. There were also cases where the item is cut entirely.

Suneo generally draws designs for the clothes in movies and sometimes he makes "mistakes" for Shizuka's clothes.
In the American English version, its called The Instant Wardrobe Cam.
And in the U.K. English version, its also called Change of Clothes Camera.
Dorami has a green variant of this item.
It was revealed that dress up camera was also used by Moriritchi in Doraemon & Tamagotchi!, who is able to used it as her fashion dresses up.
In the app Doraemon Gadget Rush, this gadget is renamed Instant Wardrobe Cam.
