Kibo (キー坊 Kībō) is a humanoid tree who first appear in Doraemon manga chapter and 1979 anime episode Goodbye Kibo. He is also the key character in the movie Doraemon: Nobita and the Green Giant Legend, which he is based on the aforementioned manga chapter.
The green leaves on Kibo's head make up his 'hair'. He has peach skin which is occupied with a slight blush on each cheek. Along with his hair, green leaves make up his dress, as well. He has leaves for hands and feet, but usually wears a pair of orange sneakers. Kibo also has black eyes, and a button nose. Kibo is a plant, thus why he is small in comparison to Nobita and his friends.
Kibo has made a guest appearance in the 1992 film, Doraemon: Nobita and the Kingdom of Clouds.
Kibo used to be a baby tree who was found by Nobita when he went searching for his test papers. Nobita, than 'thanked' the tree, and in exchange he decided to plant him in his yard. However, that option was immediately rejected once Nobita's mom said no. Nobita requested for Kibo to be made 'human' to which Doraemon thought would be a good idea. He and Nobita became good friends, and Nobita introduced him to Shizuka, Gian and Suneo. Later, when they were accidentally transported to the other planet of plantlife, Kibo was also transported along with them and helped to stop the trees from destroying Earth. He stayed back at the end because he wanted to explore space and the solar system.
- Kibo is one of the few characters other than the main characters to appears in 3 Doraemon media (the manga, the 1979 anime and 2 movies).
- He was named "Kibo" because he could only say 'Ki' means tree.
- Kibo means hope.
