Lam Pou-chuen (10 October 1951 – 2 January 2015) was a Macau-born Hong Kong veteran voice actor who was the voice of Doraemon in the Doraemon (1979 anime) and the earlier episodes of the Doraemon (2005 anime).

Once working as a office boy in a bank, but after impressed by the voice of Tarzan, he applied to be a voice actor of TVB. Lam then voiced the title character for Doraemon since the very beginning of the 1979 anime series, and continued to be the voice of Doraemon for more than three decades. Lam's continuous involvement sets Hong Kong's Doraemon apart from the original Japanese production which went through a re-launch in 2005, resulting in a complete change of voice cast. Lam and other cast members at the time reprised their roles when TVB started to broadcast the new 2005 series.

Lam died at the age of 63 on January 2, 2015 in Hong Kong from diabetes. His death was mourned by Hong Kongers and those who were fans of Doraemon.

  • He also voiced the Doraemon character in both Cantonese dubs of the 1979 movies separately made for TVB Jade and VHS and Laserdisc release by Resouporter Ltd in Hong Kong.[1]
  • Apart from Doraemon, Lam was also known for being the voice of Garfield, Amuro Ray in Mobile Suit Gundam, Genzo Wakabayashi in Captain Tsubasa, Doctor Go in Cyborg Kuro-chan, Tien Shinhan in Dragon Ball, Impmon in Digimon, Hiei in Yu Yu Hakusho and Squirtle in Pokémon. He also voiced the "Amazing Grandpa" in the first episode of the Chinese animated series Pleasant Goat and Big Big Wolf: Happy, Happy, Bang, Bang! (喜羊羊与灰太狼之给快乐加油)
  • Outside of animation, he was also the voice of the corrupt Qing dynasty official Heshen in the 2001 Chinese television series The Eloquent Ji Xiaolan, which remained his favorite role.
  • Lam was also the usual voice for Sammo Hung and George Clooney in Cantonese dubs of their films.
