Mii-chan (ミイちゃん Miichan) is a male robot toy cat and Doraemon's previous love interest, when he is misunderstood to be a female. He appears in the episode Oh, Lovely Mii-chan! and is installed with automatic devices that allows him to walk, talk, eat, climb trees and scratch.
Appearance[]
In the 1979 adaptation, Mii-chan is a male robot toy cat with yellow skin and brown stripes, and has black eyes. He wears a pink collar with a pink bell.
In the 2007 adaptation, Mii-chan has light yellow skin and brown stripes with black eyes. He wears a pink collar with a pink bow and a golden bell.
Story[]
When Mii-chan is first introduced, it is a sleeping toy cat that can only be activated with a push of a console. Doraemon really liked Mii-chan a lot and puts his own thinking to Mii-chan's calls when he pushes the console's buttons. When Doraemon makes friends with Mii-chan, the owner, a boy, sees Doraemon "stealing" his toy cat and prevents him from doing so. Later, a dog snatches Mii-chan away from the boy and Doraemon rescues it.
Later, Doraemon installs automatic devices to make it a real robot cat and Doraemon's wife. As a robot cat, Mii-chan is energetic, and is able to walk and talk. "She" is later revealed to be a male, making Doraemon heartbroken.
Gadgets installed[]
Doraemon has installed five automatic devices to Mii-chan, of which, four were introduced in greater detail in the 2007 adaptation:
- Automatic Feeding Device: The first device installed by Doraemon, the device allows Mii-chan to eat. It is known she has a preference for dried food (e.g. katsuobushi, a dried, fermented, and smoked skipjack tuna) over sweet food like dorayaki.
- Automatic Walking Device: Allows Mii-chan to walk without using the console. Useful for catching mice.
- Automatic Climbing Device: Allows Mii-chan to climb trees.
- Automatic Scratching Device: Allows Mii-chan to scratch walls.
- Automatic Talking Device: Allows Mii-chan to talk to Doraemon.
