Nobita Meets the Masked Queen is a special 30-minute episode from the 2005 series.

Plot[]

Nobita promised Shizuka that he would take her 12,000 years into the past to find an ancient necklace. However, since the time machine was broken, it malfunctioned and transported only Shizuka and the time machine itself to 12,000 years ago without Nobita. While riding in the time machine, Shizuka hit her head when the machine tilted, lost consciousness, and disappeared into the past. Nobita, Doraemon, Suneo, and Gian used the Time Belt to go back 12,000 years in order to rescue her.

While they were resting there, they were attacked by a saber-toothed tiger and a mysterious tribe led by a person wearing a red mask. Nobita and his friends ran away but fell into a canyon. They were later rescued by a girl named Mig, who told them that the Mask Tribe might know where Shizuka was, but that the tribe had fallen into corruption under the rule of the Red Mask. The Red Mask was said to be an evil being capable of controlling animals. Later, while being attacked by a mammoth, they barely managed to escape, and then the Red Mask appeared again. Nobita asked the Red Mask where Shizuka was, but the Red Mask only paused for a moment and left without saying anything, confusing Nobita.

The next day, Nobita and Doraemon decided to head to the mountains, where the Mask Tribe’s village was located, thinking Shizuka might be there. Before they left, Mig gave Nobita a handmade necklace made from the stones he had collected and told him to make a wish on it. Nobita made a wish and climbed the mountain with Doraemon, sneaking into the Mask Tribe’s village. There, they discovered that Nobita’s backpack and the “Momotaro Jirushi Millet Dumplings” inside were missing. Doraemon guessed that the Red Mask’s mysterious power might come from those dumplings and began to suspect that the Red Mask could possibly be Shizuka. Both Nobita and Doraemon were shocked and confused by this thought. Then, they saw the Red Mask entering a cave and decided to follow, but fell into a trap and were captured by the Mask Tribe. A sorceress named Shamate appeared and declared herself to be the servant of the Red Mask. Nobita and Doraemon were about to be sacrificed to a saber-toothed tiger, but Gian, Suneo, Mig, and her tribe arrived just in time to rescue them.

Nobita and Doraemon chased Shamate and the Red Mask, who were trying to escape, and entered a place called the “Room of Gods.” There, Shamate revealed that she had been keeping both the “Forgetting Flowers” and the “Momotaro Jirushi Millet Dumplings,” and confessed that the Red Mask was actually Shizuka, who had lost her memory after the time machine accident. Shamate explained that after being expelled from her own tribe for failing her magic ritual, she had wandered into the wilderness, found these two items, and decided to use them to pose as a god. Since everything had been exposed, she said there was no need to keep the mask on, removed it, and revealed Shizuka’s face. She then ordered Shizuka to hunt down Nobita and Doraemon. Misled and confused, Shizuka followed her order and attacked them. Nobita tried to reach out to her so she could remember, but he couldn’t bring himself to fight back and was soon disarmed. When Shizuka tried to attack Nobita, she suddenly stopped. At that moment, Nobita showed her the necklace Mig had made, helping her remember the promise they made at the museum. Nobita said he had wished, “I wanted us to remain good friends forever,” and gently placed the necklace around her neck as Shizuka trembled in confusion. Then, Shizuka’s eyes regained their clarity as she realized Nobita’s identity and dropped the stone spear she was holding. At that moment, Shamate shouted, “The Red Mask is mine!” and tried to kill Nobita, but Shizuka shed tears and stepped in to protect him, taking the blow herself. Then, the necklace emitted a brilliant green light that enveloped the entire area. When the light faded, Nobita found Shizuka unconscious beside him. He held her up in shock, and Shizuka, now fully recovered and blushing, said, “That’s why I asked you if it was okay for just the two of us to go.” Nobita cried tears of joy, relieved that she was safe, and Doraemon was happy too, saying that Shizuka’s wish to regain her memories had finally come true. Doraemon then used the Forgetting Flower on Shamate to make her temporarily forget what happened and apologize to the Mask Tribe for deceiving them.

Before returning to the present, Shizuka met Mig and her father and apologized sincerely for causing them trouble. Mig told her it was not her fault but Shamate’s and said it was all right. Nobita then noticed that Mig had the same type of necklace as the one he saw in the museum and realized that she had made her own wish while Nobita and Doraemon were climbing the mountain. Nobita and his friends said goodbye to Mig and her father, then boarded the repaired time machine and returned to the present.

After returning home, Tamako became furious at Nobita for lying to her and said she would no longer be fooled, declaring that she would stay in his room until he finished his studies. Nobita burst into tears, begging Doraemon to save him, and Doraemon said, “Indeed, your mom is scarier than a mammoth,” bringing the episode to a close.
