Sompote Sands (24 May 1941 – 26 August 2021), also known as Sompote Saengduenchai (Thai: สมโพธิ แสงเดือนฉาย) was a "controversial" Thai film director, special effects creator and producer best known for directing several Thai films especially tokusatsu (special effects-based) genre or monster films. He is also the founder of Chaiyo Productions.

Involvement with Doraemon[]

He was responsible for licensing the first Doraemon film, Nobita's Dinosaur, in Thailand under the name of "โดเรม่อนผจญไดโนเสา" (Dorēmon: Dinosaur Adventure) in August 21, 1981, one year after the original release in Japan, and it was success over there, which is however not repeated for the second film on October 1 of the same year, which resulted in no Doraemon films being released on theaters for many more years until Doraemon: Nobita's Legend of the Sun King being released on Thailand in 2001.

When he died on August 26 of cancer at the age of 80, ChineseDora has reported his death and gathered information about his involvement with Doraemon franchise.[1]
