Recital on the Night of the Blue Moon (青い月夜のリサイタル Aoi Tsukiyo no Risaitaru) is an episode from the 2005 anime series.

Plot[]

Doraemon experiences a sleepless night due to Nobita's loud snoring, flies outside with his Bamboo Copter to while away the night. He looks at the beautiful moon and hears a cat singing. He is so deep into the song he crashes into a tree and when he looks out, he sees a female cat singing on the roof of a house looking at the moon. Doraemon falls in love with the cat but returns home because he is too shy to manifest himself.

The next day, Gian announces that he will organize a concert, and Nobita, Suneo and Shizuka are invited. Nobita runs back home to ask Doraemon for himself, but Doraemon is sitting on the roof daydreaming about the cat. After he almost drowns himself in the bathtub, Nobita asks Doraemon out as he was concerned about his health, and eventually guesses that he is in love with another cat.

Doraemon reveals everything and they decide to meet her. They reach the cat's location and she is there, singing looking at the moon. Doraemon gives Nobita the Animal Set so that he can witness her voice. Nobita tells Doraemon to ask her out, but he says that he is too shy and tries to run away. Nobita throws him onto the house's tower and he rolls down and lands before the cat. After Doraemon hesitatingly introduces himself, the cat reveals her name to be Luna and thinks Doraemon is from the moon.

The next day while Nobita is on his way back home from school, Gian reminds him and Suneo about his concert. Shizuka then says that she has to meet her friend who is moving out of the country, but her friend appears the very moment and says that she will move out the day after the next. Nobita notices the cat in her pet-cage to be Luna, and realizes that was why she was alone on the rooftop at night. Later that night, Doraemon prepares to meet Luna with his bag of Dorayakis as a gift. Nobita decides to tell Doraemon that she is moving out, but then hesitates thinking it would hurt Doraemon deeply.

Doraemon sees Luna on the rooftop but she is not singing because the sky was cloudy, covering the moon. Doraemon uses the Compaction Cloud Gas and takes her to the clouds where she is able to happily sing to the moon. The next day, Nobita, Suneo and Shizuka gather at the Open Lot to discuss how they should tell Doraemon the truth. Doraemon, who is passing by with his bag of Dorayakis, overhears them and starts crying. Since Luna liked singing, the group gets the idea of singing a song to Luna to convey her, Doraemon's feelings. Just then, Gian appears overhearing Suneo calling him "noise pollution", all beaten up by his mom because neighbours complained about his singing.

Doraemon uses the Melody Score which will allow them to create a good melody as Doraemon does not trust in Gian'a songwriting skills. They try out several melodies, all of them being useless. Doraemon gives up and goes away saying he will compose his own song. He sits on a bench looking at the sun setting, and Luna arrives telling that she wants to look at the sunset too. Doraemon persuades her to reveal the truth and then Doraemon tells her to be present on the rooftop that night. At night, Doraemon along with Nobita, Suneo and Gian gather on a nearby rooftop and prepare to present a song to her.

Through the song, Doraemon conveys to her how much he loves her, and with the help of Anywhere Door, rendezvous her with Tera, her previous neighbour and an old friend, whom she would have been able to meet when she moves out. Doraemon then returns to the ground and says to Nobita that Luna's well being is now all he needs, as the episode ends.
