Yoshio Minamoto, commonly credited as Mr. Minamoto, is Shizuka's father. the husband of Michiko, His most prominent appearance was in future when he was discussing with adult Shizuka about her decision to marry Nobita in the short movie, Doraemon: Nobita's the Night Before a Wedding and Stand by Me Doraemon.
Appearance[]
Yoshio Minamoto's design was never consistent. In the 1973 anime, in the episode Wishing Star, Shooting Star, he was depicted as a tall medium skinned man with a traditional appearance. In the 1979 anime episode and in some of the manga chapters, he is seen to be a very thin, tall and skinny man. In the 2005 anime, CGI and a few manga chapters, he is seen to have a fluffy and chubby overall appearance.
Etymology[]
- The name Yoshio means "righteous" (義) (yoshi) and "hero, manly" (雄) (o).
- Yoshio's surname Minamoto means "source, origin" (源).
- Minamoto is also one of the three most prominent clans in Japanese history. It is listed in the Shinsen Shojiroku.
Trivia[]
- In some manga issues, as well as the 2005 anime and CGI appearances, his design looks very similar to Sensei's.
- In the English dub, he and his wife have the same voice actors as Spike and Faye from Cowboy Bebop.
- Mr. Minamoto was turned into a meme by Indonesian netizens, who compared his appearance in Stand by Me Doraemon to the look of then President Director of Indonesian oil company Pertamina, Dwi Soetjipto.[1][2]
- He, Tamako and Nobisuke are the only named parents of the main cast.
